Emergency Starter question

Post by Dstrong77 »

Hello I have my bike on the side stand and have removed the starter. Upon opening the starter It is very obvious i need a new one. Question can i put in just the front part of the starter where it engages the flywheel and sfely move the bike. I know that youare not supposed to stand it upright or move it or something will fall through the chain into the motor.

With the starter gear head inserted into the motor the chain won't go anywhere, ok to move the bike. The starter sprocket is pretty much captive in the chain, the chain and sprocket would likely swing away from the hole for the starter if you were to move the bike without the gear head inserted, but would swing back into position once you put the bike back on the side stand.
