I want to thank Wing Admin and all of the contributors on this site. No matter what the problem is with my Goldwing I can always find the answers here on Goldwing Docs.
I recently went out to winterize my 1100 but I couldn't even start the job since the engine would not even not turn over despite being kept on a tender. After removing the battery I noticed that 1/2 of the electrolyte had evaporated (boiled) out of the battery. I normally don't like to purchase a new battery before storage but I would have to if we were going to fix this overcharging issue.
A search of this site revealed many charging/overcharging threads but this is the one that helped me the most viewtopic.php?f=4&t=42125&p=263314&hili ... ut#p263314
Just a reminder for everyone don't forget to check your stator / RR output as part of this years maintenance. I'm lucky the battery failed in the garage and not while I was out on the road.
These are the readings before and after installing the sense jumper wire as outlined in the above thread.
Ignition off battery voltage - not running 12.49 - 12.49
Ignition on battery voltage - not running 11.9 - 11.9
Sense wire voltage @ RR - not running 11.0 - 11.9
Battery voltage at idle - running 14.4 - 12.7
Battery voltage at 3,500 RPM - running 15.45 - 14.22
It looks like my old GL will be on the road for another year!
Thanks again,
Chris
