Front brake bushing

Post by elementfe »

Time at home can be a very good thing- Finally gave my 83 a good going over, at least now I know how much there is to do!
It's a strong runner, just 60k, but like most of em the guy before me was....creative.
One thing I can't seem to find is, on the left front brake, where one of the bolts goes through the fork, there's a bushing that I'd like to replace- can't find it on any of the parts diagrams. It's part of the fork so it doesn't show up in the brake rebuild kits I've seen. The bolt is a bit looser than I think it should be, the other side doesn't have much if any play, nor the rear.
Does anyone have a lead on one, or a used one on a parts bike?

Thanks for any ideas.

Here is a part's diagram and Honda's number. Google the part number.

Except it's not on there. If you see it and I'm somehow missing it, please help me out with a number. I honestly do not see it listed.

OK, I'm hopeful I found what you are talking about. Go to the manuals section at the top of this page. Get to the GL1100 parts manual for 80-83. Scroll down to page 171 of that manual and you come to the front forks for a 1983 bike. I think you're wanting the collar shown as part number 17 in that diagram. Is that the part you want?

Thank you, downloaded but couldn't get any of the files to open....not familiar with any of the file formats, and my computer doesn't know what to do with them...really appreciate the effort though.

Did the manual download and open for you no problem?

The bushing is actually in the fork, it's the one for the bolt that connects the caliper to that hole in the fork.

Hi elementfe I think the Honda part number for that bushing is 51423-MC7-003. Honda calls it a collar. There's lots of new ones available on ebay right now but no new ones available from the dealerships anymore. Take a look at the pictures of the collars on ebay and tell me if that's the part from your bike you want. If that's not it I'll try again.

There are two for sale in the world- one in England, one in Australia. I can probably get one made locally.
Thanks to all who looked into it.

If your problem is space between the bolt and the inner portion of that bushing maybe just throw a thin piece of shim stock in there, easy enough and you could just replace it every time you change the pads so wear wouldn't be much of an issue
