High Idle

Post by tacomedic »

Hello, i just rebuilt my Gl1100 carbs with randakks new kit and installed them. The bike started right up but runs at 35000 RPM. I went to adjust the idle screw which was already screwed all the way out not touching the screw plate. Both push and pull throttle cables have been hooked up which didnt change a thing. Any advise would be greatly appreciated!

Have you got a vacuum leak in the intakes somewhere? A leak would cause a lean mixture, which will cause the RPM to run high (3500 RPM, not 35,000 RPM :D )

Did you bench synch the carbs before you reinstalled them. I'm referring to the carb-to-carb adjusting screws. One or more carbs may have their butterfly off the "closed" position, even while the main throttle control is off. You will have trouble doing a vacuum gauge synch with the idle at 3500 rpm.
