Gl1100 squeak at idle once warm

https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycles/co ... urce=share

Only makes the noise once warmed up and disappears as soon as the revs raise or it is being driven.
I hope the link works as i have no video on my phone and wont be able to get another one to upload to youtube for a couple days.

Does the sound seem to come from the timing belt cover area?

It wasnt easy to identify earlier bit i got a steel rod out to listen. Unfortunately i wont be able to run it for a day or two as i am having my driveway re paved atm. I was thinking timing belt or tensioner and want to do it soon regardless.

Thanks ill try that, it is new to me so I wanted to do timing belts regardless. The tensioners are like 85 each so it would be nice if i dont need to replace them.

DIY tensioner pulleys. You keep the bracket and change the pulleys.

My 1200 had been sitting for a while, I'd been doing a lot of going through (including timing belts). When I first got it going the tensioner was chirping (that's what I'd call it) and that was audible at idle. Since I thought they might have gone bad (wasn't doing it before), I ordered them and continued riding it some. By the time the parts arrived the 'chirp' had disappeared and the parts are still in the boxes on the shelf. I presume from it setting so long the grease wasn't distributed well and running it moved the grease around. That's my guess 8-)

Yeah it has sat almost a year before i bought it... im doing belts this week either way though and plan on keeping it for years so I might just bite the bullet and spend the extra 200
