GL 1100 fuel / advance question

Post by Jake1100 »

Hi - new to GW Docs after picking up a GL1100 last fall (previously had a 1200.) Was having performance problems and assumed that my jets had gotten gummed up (and thought I'd already learned that lesson the 1200, but, guess not.) My wrench identified that the problem was related to the mechanical and vacuum advance mechanisms and to get me back on the road unhooked the vacuum advance. I can tell that I now have about 80% of the bike I used to have, that it's work to get up to 70 mph, and that fuel economy has dropped. It reminds me of riding a Boxer where "gear management" is the key to performance. My wrench tells me it's a costly repair b/c the bike has to be disassembled quite a bit (e.g. dropping the swing arm) to get access to the part. He's a good wrench with lots of experience, so don't doubt his word - so reaching out here for some advice or comment on this situation. Thanks!

i am perhaps a bit too thin-skinned for the interscreen, but if i were a professional mechanic i wouldn't want to be referred to as an inanimate object.
your mechanic sounds like he is on the ball; i would go with his diagnosis and advice.
