Handlebar grip diameter

Post by Moosehead »

I am trying to buy new grips for my GL1100. I found two similar products that are matched to fit my motorcycle but have different base thicknesses. My handle bars measure 7/8" (25mm).

One grip for sale is 1" (32mm) https://www.ebay.com/itm/1-Motorcycle-H ... 4202396839.
Another grip is 7/8" (25mm) https://www.ebay.com/itm/Custom-Chrome- ... 2602883158.

I want to have a chrome handlebar grip with cruise control and not break the bank. I like the wrist kind or the thumb locking kind. What do you recommend, and, what size grip fits? -Moosehead

Unless I misunderstood you have already answered your own question. You will need 7/8" grips. Style is subjective and as you have seen there are many different ones on Ebay. Just make sure to check fit, a lot of sellers do this as some grips are longer/shorter than others. my 2 cents worth.

I found both 7/8 inch AND 1 inch items listed in Ebay above as fitting my 1982 Goldwing, which leads to my confusion. Then there's the throttle sleeve over 7/8 inch bar and I wondered if that matters to the size of the grip.

Has anyone else replaced handlebar grips on their GL1100 before and know what size they got?

I got these about a month ago to replace some foam/chrome grips. I love them. I got the black ones. There's enough glare out there already so I opted for black.

Now I'm lost. 1" = 25.4 mm

Where have I gone wrong?
I am not and have never been a LEO. My avatar is in honor of my friend, Dallas Police Sargent Michael Smith, who was murdered along with four other officers in Dallas on 7.7.2016.

The grips you linked to replace the sleeve as the throttle cables attach right to the grip.

To the best of my knowledge, only Harleys use 1" bars, everyone else uses 7/8" (22mm)

No, you're right C-Dub. I copied the numbers wrong. 22mm=7/8 inch and 25"mm=1 inch.

That's great! Thank Rambozo, I'll order the 7/8" today!
