Replacing an engine

Post by nils.hagen »

I have a beautiful Aspencade, in great condition, with the exception of a solid hunk of metal where the engine used to be (turns out they need oil??). I would like to get it running, what are my options? Namely, what's the best place to look (found a couple possibilities on eBay and Craigslist)? What's the cheapest way to do it? Can I throw a 1200 in there? Anything else I need to know?

I believe the GL1000, the GL1100, and the GL1200 are basically the same except for maybe bore and stroke.( and a few minor other things)
I would try looking on Craig's List, Ebay, Facebook market for a used bike to pull and engine from. you want to hear it run before you dump all that money in it. I would NOT buy an 'OUT of BIKE' engine from a private seller.

one more thing off subject. I noticed you have a 82 GL1100A with a broken starter listed on your profile.
I happen to have a STARTER off of a 82 GL1100 Interstate just laying around. bought a parts bike a few years ago. have some left over.
