Exhaust Gaskets
I took my exhaust Pipes off and there weren't any gaskets. Is this correct for a 83 Aspencade?

Re: Exhaust Gaskets
Have you carefully inspected the heads? There should be gaskets in the exhaust ports, sometimes they take a bit of persuasion to pick them out as they have been there a long time (use a pick or a narrow flat bladed screwdriver). If you look they will be likely blackened and flattened substantially ( can look as if there are none there but unless the previous owner was negligent there will be)as the original round copper gaskets are designed to crush and provide a good seal. I know some folks reuse the existing gasket but for the price I install new ones when I have the headers off.Get used to looking up the fiche for your bike they provide a wealth of knowledge. The oem gaskets are still available but I use aftermarket ones available on Ebay etc.due to price

Re: Exhaust Gaskets
Hi Everyone, I do have exhaust gaskets that are stuck pretty good up inside the head, now what is the best way to remove the old compress gaskets? I sprayed them well with liquid wrench but having trouble removing the old gaskets.
Need some help here.... Thanks Charlie

Re: Exhaust Gaskets
As said above you have to dig them out. A small flat screwdriver works. Just get under one side and lever on the edge of the hole. Work around until it pops out.Aspe83 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 06, 2020 12:34 pm Hi Everyone, I do have exhaust gaskets that are stuck pretty good up inside the head, now what is the best way to remove the old compress gaskets? I removed mine this spring. The copper is softish, however when the pipes mount, they get squashed. But they are still soft. You just dig them out. Don't be afraid to get right in there with a sharp tool and get an edge and they'll pop right out.
