New GL1100 owner seeking info on relay mod

Post by hampo53 »

Hi riders and wrenchers

Got to the time in my life (77) where my spine won’t allow me
to ride or sit as pillion anymore.
My relative bought me a 1100 Aspy trike ‘83 and I read about this
relay upgrade to produce more power to the coils etc.

I searched this forum and the Web and I can’t find any info on this
upgrade and the materials I need to do the job.

Can any Wing Brothers or Sisters help me please.

Many thanks

Hog in the UK

I personally have not heard of this mod. Can you be more specific as to what the mod is supposed to accomplish? The coils are made to fire on 7 volts. A higher voltage will shorten the life of the coils.

I've heard of it but not done it myself. The coil gets power from a small wire coming from the handlebar kill switch. Supposedly if you wire a relay between the battery and the coil pack and use that small wire to energize the relay you would get more power to the coils.
