Water pump replacement 82 aspencade

Post by Garykearns »

Hi , im replacing my water pump and being very carefull with the o rings . Put things back together and the coolant drips fast out of weep hole. Took it apart put another new o rings in and same thing coolant drips fast out the weep hole . I see nothing wrong with the o rings at all . Its is after market water pump by barracuda. Now i ordered oem honda water pump. And will try 3rd time . My confidence is shaken. :(

I may be wrong, but I believe the weep hole leads to the space between the shaft seal and the first bearing. If it is weeping, the shaft seal is leaking - the pump is defective. Nothing to do with the O-rings, which just seal between the pump body and the bearing/seal housing.
I think you got a bad pump, I have good confidence that your new OEM pump will fix your problem.

The problem is right there in your original message:
Its is after market water pump by barracuda.
Barracuda (aka Saber Cycle) makes cheap, Chinese knock-off parts that are frequently defective or out of spec. In all likelihood, your problem is the crappy water pump you put in your bike. The OEM Honda water pump should fix your problem. The Saber Cycle water pumps, even if they don't leak straight away, are well known for failing very quickly.

Hi Everyone, Just wanted to update on the 82 aspencade water pump replacement gone wrong. I just finished installing the OEM Honda water pump and it went well no drips or leaking of any fluids. So it was a bad aftermarket water pump . So do not buy after market parts . Try hard to get honda parts if possible. Thanks again for your post on this issue. Im on to other upgrades . New coils, sparkplugs and wires fuel pump. All ready rebuilt carbs , rear air shocks , breaks and more. Thanks Gary

As soon as I saw the word "Barracuda" water pump, I knew what the problem was, even though I have never used their parts. It used to be that no matter the problem, it was the customer's fault. So, I'm curious if Saberpsycho is still the one who responds to customer inquiries and what was the response you got, if you contacted them/

Hi , I Did not contact saber cycle on the bad water pump. They would have just told me i did something wrong. They claim baracuda pumps meet or excede oem specs. I am here to tell you they do not. It went in the trash can. Thanks Gary
