I've been using 80w-90 in mine.

The how-to on this site says to use 75w-90. viewtopic.php?t=76

So, pretty sure you'll be fine.

80W-90 gear oil IS 90 weight oil.

"80W-90" means "90 weight gear oil that acts as 80 weight gear oil in cold temperatures (W=Winter)"

Which is exactly what the GL1100 owner's manual calls for:

Gear oil
Gear oil

75W-90 will work just as well, and is much easier to find.
