windshield surprise.

Post by Skeldog »

Well I learned a little more today about my Interstate. it has what the previous owner called a Tulsa windshield. it's probably 2" taller than the stock one. anyway I had it off while doing some maintenance on the fairing last week. when I put it back on my thinking I guess was don't overtighten the screws that hold it. I use a little blue locktite on them so they don't vibrate loose. anyway I was riding a rough dirt road maybe 25 mph into the wind thankfully when it suddenly rocked back on the two rear through bolts. I was sure glad I wasn't out on the highway. I pushed it back and rode the mile home and re- mounted it and tightened it up a lot better. realiozing the friction against the rubber strip behind it is about all thet grips it to prevent that from happening

Be very cautious with standard Loctite around plastic. It will embrittle plastic and it will fail in short order.
