1983 clarion 2 sound issue

Post by Chewy »

my problem is that i have very low sound coming out of the speakers unless i use the positive from the right side, and the negative from the left side. that is the only way i get any decent volume from a speaker. tested the system with a known good speaker hooked up both correctly, and using one wire from each side. does this mean that the audio system amplifier has gone bad? if soo, can i use a small aftermarket amplifier to replace the stock amplifier? tia for any advice.

Sounds like the right side neg and left side pos amplifiers have failed. These amplifiers are usually two-to-a-chip, both the pos and neg amplifiers within the same chip for that channel, so will need to replace both chips to get it working right. These chips aren't very expensive.

Call Sierra Electronics, 800-338-6938, they specialize in Goldwing Audio, and ask them their opinion, I bet they can fix you right up for reasonable cost and quick turn-around time.
