1983 Aspencade fork FUN!

Post by Sig45227 »

So, I'm into my last phase of long overdue maintenance, fork seals.
Last night I took a nice oil bath after not purging all the air from the system before opening one of the end of leg drains!
Could have swore it was empty before I removed the front wheel! Live and learn, lol. :D

Seals and dust covers on order. Probably going to use ATF, guy at dealership said 10w oil is standard? I think a little thicker oil would help under hard braking to reduce dive without pumping the air side up too high, which in turn messes with bump absorption.

First question, what is everyone replacing the deteriorated foam seal that's under the first white nylon washer? It literally just fell apart lifting it out.

Second question, what is everyone using to rinse old oil from the system and how?
