Which Gasket do I need?

Post by bhusek »

Hello, new to the forums, just acquired 82 Goldwing. I have a small leak seen in the pics. Anyone know what gasket I need to replace here? thank you!

This must be the gasket between your rear cover and your engine block:

in the first pic it looks like you are referring to the clutch cover gasket.

in the second picture it looks like you are pointing to the rear cover gasket.

the first can be done without pulling the engine, but a bit of a PITA.
the second cannot be replaced unless you pull the engine unfortunately.

If it were me I would wash the oil off and then decide where it is coming from. Looks to me it is leaking from somewhere above and migrating down the rear of the engine. The entire rear of the engine looks to be covered with oil.

Here it is all nice and clean, appears to be coming from the same spot.

Might want to check that all the bolts are tight, too. Also look at the shifter shaft seal, leaks from there tend to blow back to the area you indicate.

That is the rear engine cover gasket. If that is where it is actually leaking, the engine will have to be pulled to replace. Good luck! You might try and re-torqueing the bolts as was suggested.
