My 83 GL1100 Choke Mechanism

In removing the carburetors, I found that the black plastic cap of the choke lever mechanism is missing.

Something must have broken in the plastic base holding the cap securely in position. The choke works absolutely fine but only the cap is missing (I have a spare cap). The problem again is how to secure it to the base. Should I glue it in place to avoid....dust (as a matter of fact it's a dust cover) inside the mechanism?

Again, any suggestion is appreciated
