The 1100 I am refurbishing has a vetter mounted now. The mount fiberglass has been sloppily repaired. Found another vetter faring in good shape.(not all busted up). Think this came off a Yamaha. Are most vetters mounting and spacing the same? My steel mounts to frame are good. The fiberglass is questonable.
Another would be the electric plug to fairing. Mine has radio. Other does also. Turn sigs, headlight plug the same?
Just put the carbs back on today. It runs and idels now. Hurray!!!!

Re: Used vetter fairing
Back in the day Vetter had a few "standard" farings, but they had mounting and wiring kits unique to the bike. Since you have all the mounts and plugs, you should be good. Was is a Yamaha XS1100?

Re: Used vetter fairing
Vetter fairings were made of ABS plastic, not fiberglass.
You could repair it the same as you would for a GL-1500 or GL-1800
with ABS plumbing cement from Home Depot.
If that fairing is fiberglass, it isn't a Vetter. Probably one of the many
copies that were available back then.

Re: Used vetter fairing
They were both. Earlier Vetter fairings were all fiberglass. It wasn't until he was able to leverage the economies of scale that he could afford vacuum-forming and later ABS form manufacturing. You can read the whole story here:offcenter wrote: ↑Fri Oct 29, 2021 12:54 pm Vetter fairings were made of ABS plastic, not fiberglass.

Re: Used vetter fairing
My terminology may not be correct. Always called that material fiberglass. Bet it is hard plastic. The lower front mounting location has been repaired. Like they loosened rear mounts then flipoed it up. It works but would like to have it nicer without alot of work.
Thanks all. Will probly pick it up tomorow. For 50 bucks think not bad. Will keep posted how it is. I am slow tho.

Re: Used vetter fairing
I have had 3 bikes with Vetter fairings. The first was a 1972 CB 500 that I bought the first Windjammer sold in our area. It was fibreglas, the next was a 1979 GL1000 that had the Windjammer and bags installed by the dealer when the bike was prepped for sale. That and the more recent ones were ABS plastic. The older ones did not vibrate or rattle when on a rough road, but did have tendencies to crack a lot. The older HD Vetter fairings broke apart a lot because of the material they were made of. That fairing is rather rare, as most fell apart due to vibes of the older HD's. I have only seen 2 in my lifetime. I do know a older gentleman that was a dealer for many years that had 2 New In Box as of 4 years ago. I gave him Craig Vetter's contact info as Craig was looking for one.

Just mounted it on the 81 gl1100. Could not get radio to work but have not looked into it much. Kinda cold. Next week maybe into 50s. The mount holes lined up perfect. The radio does touch gagues tho. Will need to finse it.
Do need some keys. Anyone know if local locksmiths will make them?
