Clutch actuator

Post by U771663 »

Just replaced the clutch plates in my 81 gl1100 torqued per book. After getting the cover back on I tried to move the clutch actuator by hand and I cant hardly move it. It acts as if the springs are completely compressed. Is this normal?

Without the clutch lever, you have no leverage. I'm slightly concerned that you can even move the actuator by hand. Did you measure the springs to be sure they were still in spec?

Honestly I couldn't move it. It took everything I had to get it to barely wiggle

Totally normal. I don't remember what the lever ratio is on the clutch lever, but it's quite high. It can easily exert 100 lbs of force on the actuator lever. There's a reason why the clutch cable is as thick as it is!
