Bike parked for new years eve now no power at ignition

Post by DARK-WING »

Hello fellas, and HAPPY NEW YEARS!!!!

I need the help from the pros again because I'm stumped on what to do next. I've been troubleshooting and reading all day. Long story short, I hope...lol

I parked my bike on New Year's Eve, then got up to go to work Sunday and had no power. No clicks lights, nothing, zilch! Thinking it was the battery I bought a charger and connected it and to my surprise it's good at 13.17 volts!

So I started thinking starter relay. Did some reading, this is where I'm at.

Checked voltage ⚡ at battery with the ignition ON/OFF and STARTER BUTTON PRESSED, no change in voltage.

Checked FUSES, ✔ ✅ all good

Crossed the post x got sparks ✨ 🙌 with the clicks and starter turning the motor.....

I'm not sure where I start checking next, anywhere would be great. Thank you Goldwingdocs 😊

Just to clarify, you had no lights, no clicks. Do you mean that it was as if the electrical system was completely dead or was it that the starter system was doing nothing?
I'm selling good clean fresh hay. If you want some that's already passed through the horse, that comes a little cheaper!

The best advice on internet motorcycle repair forums comes from posting the wrong answer to your own question.

Start by checking your ignition switch.

I like the Dude! Somebody stole your ground cable. Lol, I was thinking ignition switch also because it's been wonky lately. But yeah it was like the whole electrical system was dead. Well I guess I'll order a switch today. Thank you guys and have a great day!

How about testing instead of unleashing the parts canon?
Did you check the dogbone?
You should be able to trace a no power condition in a matter of minutes with either a volt meter or even just a test light.

I already received the new switch. Can I run a switch without an accessories position? All I have is head light ,horn, turn signals and brake light. I still might do some testing just to make sure everything is ok before I get it back on the road.
Does anyone know what the plastic plate that holds the connectors is called???I accidentally broke two of the little arms off and figured I'd replace it while it's off. Have a great day wings!
