Front wheel bearing seals

Post by Pumpkineater69 »

Ok, to start with the how to articles on here are fantastic. You've convinced me to tackle jobs I never would have tried, and they've all turned out great -- except when I tried my own shortcuts!
Rebuild a caliper, completely rebuild the forks, take the final drive apart for bearings and new rear tire -- it's all been great. I keep saying if I had to pay shop rates for the work, my wife wouldn't like the bike nearly as much.
But now I have one little issue I just don't see mentioned anywhere.
I'm now in the process of front wheel bearings and tire.
My bearing kit from All Balls has one small seal, which goes in the retainer ring. But I also have 2 larger new seals. One that matches the side that has speedo drive. And another that is a mystery. There were only 2 seals on the wheel when I disassembled it. One small in retainer ring, and one large on the other side.
Where does the other large seal go? Or is that included in the kit to also cover another year?
Mine is an 81 Interstate.
