80 go 1100 makes funny noise

Post by Lhoward933 »

My 80 gl1100 makes a funny noise when I try to start it. Almost like starter not turning chain inside, it's kind of a click once then nothing. Any ideas or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

need more info ... try to identify where the "click" is coming from ... the starter relay (near the battery) or from the starter itself. is this bike new to you or have you owned it a while and the issue just started ? how old is the battery and have you had it tested ? are all the connections to the battery, starter relay, frame ground, and starter CLEAN and tight ?

I've had bike for about 1 year now and been working on it since I have got it. Brand new battery, spark plugs and starter. Sounds like it's coming from starter. It's irritating I just want to get this beautiful bike on road again. Like she deserves to be.

i would then check for voltage at the starter while pressing the start button. there is going to be some voltage drop but i think you are looking to see 9.5v or more during cranking. hopefully someone will step in and correct me if that figure is wrong.
