does anyone know if the front brakes from a 1983 v65 magna are a direct bolt on?
de-linking the brake system and want to have matching calipers on the front.

Can't say that I can give you a direct answer to your question although I can say that linking the ones you already have works quite well. In my case the unmatched sizes are linked and I'm not noticing any pull or uneven wear to the pads or rotors.
I'm selling good clean fresh hay. If you want some that's already passed through the horse, that comes a little cheaper!

I used a rear caliper from a +-84 VF1000f. It's 32mm and bolts right in place. Uses the same pads as stock. It just does not have Honda forged in the aluminum. I picked it up from a local bike wrecker for about $30, rebuilt and painted it. Mine is an Aspencade, so it has the thicker rotors.

After digging through many different items on Ebay ladt summer, I surmised that many of the calipers of that era for Honda are the same. They have the same spacing, bolt hole pattern wise, some have the Trac system, some do not.
I know that the right front caliper and the rear caliper have the same spacing because I checked when I had mine apart for rebuild.
