GL 1200 stator and rectifier on a GL1100
From what I understand the stator from the 1200 models has a higher output. Is the stock regulator / rectifier still a shunt type? If it is not, I have two regulators and two stators that I will put on my 1100s.

Here is a picture of the part numbers for both of the regulator / rectifier that I have.

Is this a shunt type like what I already have on my 80 and 83, or is it a MOSFET

There's only two types of regulator/rectifiers (RR), shunt and series. A MOSFET is an internal electronic component used in modern shunt and series RRs. No such unit as a MOSFET RR. A MOSFET replaces the older electronic internal components, and has been around for a long time. The name MOSFET has caught on as being an RR and is misleading IMHO. Unless you buy a high end RR from a company say Shindengen, you are relying on the supplier's word that it has internal MOSFET components.
The units you have are shunt RRs. The decision you have to make is are you going to stay with a shunt RR, or upgrade to a series RR regardless of the internal design.
There are two stators for the 1200. The stator for the carb models is approximately 350 watts. The stator for the 1200 FI models - '85/'86, are 500 watts. There is a size difference. The stator from an FI 1200 will probably not fit, don't know about the 350 watt stator, would have to compare the 1100 stator to the 1200 350 watt stator.
Cheers
