rear brake rotor guard
on one of the facebook gl1100 forums the topic of the rear brake rotor guard (and it's necessity, or lack thereof) came up. i then realized that the '82 that i am resurrecting didn't come with one, although i DO have one in the hoard that i can install. would be interested in hearing your thoughts on this ... what's it there for/is it really necessary ?

Re: rear brake rotor guard
The original purpose was to help prevent rain, oil and dirt from contaminating the rotor and pads. It will run fine without it, but if you have one, definitely put it on!

Re: rear brake rotor guard
wingadmin ... that would certainly be my guess , but that begs the question ... "why didn't they do it on the front, too ?" i am thinking due to esthetics. the rear is out of sight, hidden by the saddle bag ; having them on the front would result in a more cluttered look, i think. anyhow, as you say, since i have it, it's going on, but if i didn't have one i don't think i would be at all worried.
