I recently bought a 1982 Honda GL1100 that is in the process of becoming a Cafe. When it comes to starting the bike it's very inconsistent. Some days it'll start right up no issues and I'll let it run a bit. Other days the starter relay will only click and it won't start. I'm going out on a hunch to thinking it's most likely either the entire wiring setup and or the starter solenoid since it's original to the bike.

I changed the battery out and replaced a fuse within the fuse box under neath the "tank" hatch as well.

Any Information or help on this would be immensely appreciated. This is my first bike and I've done a good bit of homework before buying it, just don't have the experience of recognizing problems yet.

here's something you can do that's free and fairly easy. remove and clean the connections to the starter relay. same for the connection to the starter. if you didn't clean the battery leads when you replaced the battery, do so now. also remove and clean the battery negative where it bolts behind the upper engine hanger.
