Fork help

Post by Kbrown83gl1100i »

I have a 83 gl1100 interstate. And I need to do the forks on it. I also have an 81. Is it possible to use the forks from the 81 on my 83. I know 83 has the anti dive. But is it possible. If so is it easy to do

I could be wrong on the year but the 1980 and I think 81 had 39mm forks whereas the 82-83 had 43mm so you would have to change the triple trees too but then I am wondering if they beefed up the steering head when they changed to a larger fork

Looks like there are some differences, but it is doable if you swap the forks, wheel and brakes. It will be a downgrade on the brakes. Here is a thread about putting 83 forks on an 81.

I guess if you have both bikes, you can give it a try and see if it's ok for you.
