I mixed up my carb slides!
While trying to clean my carbs, I do believe I mixed up the slides and have put them back together in the wrong corresponding carb body. The bike now revs very high around 4000 rpm and stays there for a time before gradually falling back down and stalling. Does anyone know how to identify how to match up the slides to the appropriate carb? Thanks

Re: I mixed up my carb slides!
Your not the first, not to worry, The caps from factory have the Keihin facing out towards the valve covers , the slides you can just do like they did at the factory , Take the springs out reach inside with your finger and feel for restrictions pushing up and let them fall naturally without the springs they will glide smoothly down and seat , they are matched at the factory but I don't think in any scientific way just inspected for smooth and even operation between all 4 carbs. Any hangups check the cap and slide and slide vacuum chamber before switching around, if the problem follows to the next carb chances are it is in the slide itself

Re: I mixed up my carb slides!
So they're all the same as long as they slide up and down without resistance. I was reading in a very detailed post on 1100 carb reassembly that read, DO NOT MIX UP THE SLIDES. They are specific to each carb. I'm sure that I mixed them up last time I assembled them because they all seemed identical. I thought it wouldn't matter. My bike is running like hell so, this may be the culprit or the floats are the culprit. Thanks again biguns.

Re: I mixed up my carb slides!
The carbs bodies, caps and slides are all made separately so the tolerances have to be acceptable right off the line so much that an assembly line production can occur, the key to production is tight tolerances so that matching slides/carbs is not needed.
It is good practice to keep them matched once they bed in but things happen, just check them for smooth even operation with and without the springs installed but the cap screwed on with both tests, You should get smooth even operation from each slide, if there are any problems try switching the caps around, don't worry about the slides.
Remember Keihin faces out.

OK...... Here goes!! This bike must run properly. I will have the voodoo shaman dance around behind me while I reassemble this time.

Re: I mixed up my carb slides!
Carbs torn down for the 4th time. I was very meticulous with everything. I am pleased to announce the bike is running good now and it's back on the road. Plugs all a nice light uniform color. Compression test good all around. My decel is still somewhat slow and I believe it's because of the electric fuel pump I installed is maybe pumping a little too much to allow for a fast deceloration. I ll be tweaking that. Thanks for your input with my issues. Cheers to you!
