Exhaust mod question

Post by slickster »

Getting an 80 1100 back on the road...right side header has a totally rusted away area that extends well into the muffler....the header is solid, was going to adapt some Harley slip -ons, how can I attach a pipe to the old header. Weld only? Do I need to sweep the pipe up or will the mufflers hang too low if it goes straight back?...thanks

Quick update, had a pair of 18 inch long. 1 1/2 inch o.d. pipe cut and bent with a 30 degree bend in the middle made up, $30,_cut header where it joins with the muffler, cut bent pipes to fit, bought $50 mig welder, ran a bead around to secure it, fit generic mufflers, done! Sounds great and looks good....
