I am doing my front fork seals and installing progressive springs while there off I want to polish the lowers. I saw on a post here that someone had polished their lowers and got them shiny like chrome. I would like to know the process they used
was it just buffing and if so what was used was there any sanding and if so what grit and by hand or with a sander

Re: Polish front fork lowers
I used automotive rubbing compound and a shop rag. A little moistness on the rag and just used my three fingers wrapped around the rag with some rubbing compound. Brought up the shine from the aluminum and took out blemishes and discoloring on my '82 Goldwing. Try it!

Re: Polish front fork lowers
I would use 600 wet or maybe 800 either will buff out with an automotive cutting compound or an aluminum polish, I remember a guy did a great job with mothers and a buffing ball drill attachment.
Be sure any clear coat is removed, sanding will show where it is but on these bikes most of the clear is usually gone by now.
