Valve seals
I have a 1982 Interstate. It has 188000 kms.. It uses oil. It smokes on startup, but that's it. I considered changing my valve seals to see if that would help. I was told by a goldwing owner and mechanic I was waisting my time snd money. Is changing valve seals on a 1100 common practice? My bike is stored 1/2 the year with winter and stored for several years before I became the owner. Thank you for any thoughts in advance. Chris

Re: Valve seals
It's very likely your valve seals, they get old and hard, and let oil leak past when it's sitting. When you first start it up, that oil burns, giving you the smoke.
It's not a huge problem, but if it does bother you, you can change valve seals without a huge amount of work. viewtopic.php?t=35979
