Hi All
I am currently working on a GL1100 Project. I got a bike that was parked for 10 years. I was able to crank the motor. After complete disassembly I did the following
Paint job, Carb rebuild, From fork rebuild, Brake rebuild, tire replacement and a new battery.
I was able to start the bike. Then I went for a 2 month long vacation with the battery disconnected. After coming back when I connected the back the battery and tried to turn on the motorcycle, the battery voltage went down to 7.5V. Tried to jump start the bike using portable jump starter. It does crank but never starts and the portable device starts to make a clicking sound as if it is getting turned on and off. Not sure what exactly happened.
I started with disconnecting the battery and measuring resistance between the positive and negative battery wires. It goes to 5 ohm when key on, as if something has shorted. Tried measuring current as well with battery connected and it seems to draw 33 mA when key on and few µA when key off. When I opened to check the fuses, there was a slight discoloration of the Oil Temp, Neutral, fuel fuse. Not sure where I go from here.
Any suggestion/debugging tips would be really helpful
Thanks
Harsh

Charge the battery. Test for resting voltage, key on voltage, cranking voltage.
If you can check cranking current do that as well.
Check all the connections on the solenoids and all the ground connections.
Do you have the OEM solenoids, or aftermarket?
33mA is way too low for key on. Check for power at all the fuses. A 5 ohm load should draw about 2.4 amps. The headlight alone draws more than that.
I'm thinking shorted cell in the battery.

Re: GL1100 Electrical Short
Tried charging the battery, it doesn't seem to charge anymore. I have a spare battery with which I can test but I not sure if I should connect another one since the key on resistance between the positive and negative terminals seem to be 5ohm with battery removed.
Not sure about the Solenoid, need to check that.
The headlight was working previously but now even that has stopped working.
Do you think I should connect a new battery ?

5 or .5 ?
.5 is in the ballpark for key on, maybe a little low, but if you have extra lights...

5 ohm between terminal wires with battery removed

Put in a new battery and I bet your problem will be solved. Once it is running be sure to check your charging system to avoid a repeat performance.

@Rambozo - Thanks for the suggestion.
Tried with the new battery and it worked as expected
