Diode on 83 Aspencade

I’ve been searching for why my starter doesn’t work. The trail led to a bad diode, so I ordered the prescribed item.

Now that I have it, I’d sure like to know where the broken one is. There is nothing I can find on this machine that looks like this two-pronged (90 degree twist between the two prongs) little square black box represented by the part number.

Who can show me where this puppy goes?

I believe I may have found the item on the inside of the upper frame immediately over the front carb on the left side (astraddle the bike). It’s in a white retainer clip.

The diode is out of the white clip shown in the center of the photograph on the inside of the upright frame member.
