1983 GL1100 Carb rebuild

Post by slickdriver49 »

Question: I just took possesion of a 1983 GL1100. All the jets and associated parts were removed when I got the manifold with the carbs on it. I now have everything sorted- I thought. But I find the needle jets, that all the illustrations say should be inserted ahead of the main jet holder and main jet, will not not thread into the female threaded porting. There is just not enough thread bite because the needle jet takes up too much space in the hole. Am I doing something wrong? Does this needle jet really need to be there to make the main jet system work? When I take the needle jet out, the main jet holder and main jet snugs up very nicely. What gives?

Partzilla is one of many sights I refer to with a complete parts breakdown. Hope this helps you.

Tim, Thanks for the tip. On further inspection of the carb, I realized the part I was concerned about was already in place in the chamber and seemingly pressed into the jet throat. Ya gotta love these older bikes.
