No Power with key on
Just purchased a nice 1982 GL1100. It has updated solenoid kit with fuse. I have power on red wire and solenoid activation when jumped. The yellow wires from generator look good at plug. Where to look next? I’m in the process of removing fairing etc to make chasing wires easier.

Most of the aftermarket solenoids do not match Honda wiring. They will work, but you may have to swap some wires around to get them right. Ignore the colors and positions and trace everything out with a meter.

Are you done with wiring or still need help?

Still chasing wires. Could the 7volt regulator or stator kill power to the whole bike?

Re: No Power with key on
If 7volt regulator fails, it can cause a short circuit that drains the battery and prevents the bike from starting.

Re: No Power with key on
No it cannot. I have never heard of a 7 volt regulator failing shorted, but even if it did, it would blow a fuse. The 7 volt regulator is only powered when the bike is actually turned on, so a failed 7 volt regulator can't possibly drain the battery when the bike is turned off.
The 7 volt regulator is only used to power the fuel and temperature gauges. It fails open or closed, and in that case sends either 0V or system bus voltage (12-14v) to the gauges, which will damage them. It has no other function in the bike.

Do you have a service manual??GWing982 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 12, 2024 7:36 pm Just purchased a nice 1982 GL1100. It has updated solenoid kit with fuse. I can provide you with service manual, electric schematic, and owner manual in pdf format.

Re: No Power with key on
If it is the ignition switch, it isn't serviceable, per se (you can't buy replacement parts). The electrical portion of the switch can be carefully disassembled, cleaned and inspected. The slide connections can get pitted and/ or oxidized, and a good scuff up can get it working again. It is also quite possible the connector itself is loose or oxidized.
