1982 GL1100A Need lots of TLC

Post by dubepj »

just bought a 1982 GL1100 A. Timing belts were replaced Dec. 1996, Bike had about 30000 Kms at that time. Now has about 75000 KMS. Took cover off to have a look. they look good. no cracks. Should I replace them?

Got the old girl running. seems to run fine'
Did the following. Fork seals, Timing belts, New coolant, New oil & filter, New final drive oil, rebuilt both master cylinders and 3 calipers, New DOT 3 Brake fluid, Bled Brakes, new plugs,, Rebuilt the carbs. One jet in each carb plunged solid.

Eliminate the plug next to the battery where the three yellow wires from the stator connect. Eventually the plug overheats and melts and can kill your stator

Stator plug by the battery can be replaced. Go to a marine chandlery, get a high amp 3 prong marine connector and install. These OEM connectors failed because of lack of maintenance, collected a lot of crud/crap, and when this happens they do overheat and fail. Kept clean and free of crud/crap, last a very long time, and will outlast yourself.

Yes the 3 wire plug has one prong burnt off. cut and soldered all 3 wires. Charges good now.
