83 GL 1100, dead spark in #2 cyl. ??

Post by velvetrider »

I am going to sell Black Velvet, my 83 / GL1100, w.90 K miles. However I have discovered that #2 cyl. is not firing.. I checked the wire to the capacitor.. seems good. I do not want to replace any more stuff.. any body got any recommendations ? Thanks, Geoff.

I believe Cyl #1 and Cyl #2 fire off the same coil. If it's only #2 that's dead there is a short to ground in the #2 wire, and/or in the coil itself.

Glen you are correct,,, cyl 1 & 2 are supposed to be on the same coil. However I changed the coils 1 about a year ago. It ran good then,, but I am going to reconnect according to my shop manual and see what happens.... I'll keep you posted,,,, thanks man..

This evening I am installing new coils in Black Velvet. 2nd set. I got correct resistance on primary side, but for some reason unable to get a reading on secondary circuit, (plug wires) I checked Youtube vids that showed how to check the resistance of the coils, but unable to get a reading from the plug wires, (secondary circuit). Will keep you guys posted.
