Fork Braces

Post by dubepj »

My 1982 GL1100A does not have a fork brace. While looking at a wrecked 1983 bike I noticed it came with a fork brace. Would I gain anything by changing out the forks from this 1983 model?
Is this change possible? Are fork tubes same size? Would my wheel work with the 1983 forks?
My front tire is ready to be replaced and maybe this would help with fork shimmy going over railway tracks.
Thanks for your replies.

Evening, big heavy Aspencade really needs a brace. I was able to twist the tubes with the tree turned to hard stop left or right by grabbing the wheel. Then added Maryland brace. Rock solid. Plenty of dog bone braces on eBay. Easier than whole fork change out.
