82 gl1100 Aspencade air shocks replacement

Post by itsjoshright »

I want to change my original shocks but the recommended replacement (Progressive Suspension 416) don't seem to be sold anymore. I even contacted Progressive Suspension no luck

Any one have any other air shocks recommendations or should I give up and go with the spring 412?

I haven't seen them for sale either but you could put the progressive springs in your shock body easy enough you might want to order new seals as well you will need to compress the shock I made one from all thread and wood works fine.

I've read great reviews about Hagon shocks, but haven't used them myself. As said above, you can rebuild the OEM shocks, adding the progressive springs. If you ride mostly solo, you probably won't need any air pressure. Two up and/ or loaded with gear, you can still make easy adjustments.
Here's a couple pics of my homemade shock compressor...

unfortunately no shop to rebuild them myself in my small NYC apartment. I did find some used Progressive 416 12.5". about an two to three hours away. I do ride both solo and two up with the trunk full. does anyone know if 12.5" would work? thanks

Seals for starts 2 shaft seals honda part 91257-463-013 shop around I paid 15 and change apiece Ifor the 2 hose fitting oring I used an oring from a viton oring assortment from Harbor F but I am sure there is a Honda part # there are 2 thin orings on the stem cap (4 total)I did not replace mine but probably should have and 2 bump stops I used Prothane 19-902-BL ebay 4.99 each shock bushing tight fit on the shaft but with lube easier some will drill them out to fit the shaft easier I tried but it is tough to hold on to urethane to drill it out.
