I bought someone's parts 82 gl1100 with a seized engine just to see if I could get the engine running. I've gotten the engine turning over with the heads removed, so that's some progress. However, I noticed that oil comes out of the little hole that sends oil to the heads on the right side, but not on the left side. Both heads are off, so I put my finger over the hole on the right side thinking I'd force the oil to go to the left side, but that didn't work. I tried running a piece of wire into the hole, but it only goes in to where the hole must make a downward turn. I tried blowing in 100 psi air in that hole and still no luck. Any ideas? Of note is that when I actually first got the engine unseized and rotating with the starter, water (not oil) came out the right side for a while and finally oil came out.
Separate question. The bike has no spark units. Coils are there and it looks like the pickup coils appear to be there. I can get the spark units from online, but I was wondering if I could take the spark unit from my parts GL1200 and somehow connect it up to get spark. It looks feasible to me looking at the wiring diagram. I was even considering rigging up some points to the left side head camshaft.
