Found a Wineberry color match

Post by cpawilly »

I needed to paint a side cover to match my '84 Wineberry. I have read a few things on this and other forums about a Chrysler color that was a close match. Today I went to Autozone and got The Dupli-color called Dark Garnet Red # BGM0532. So far it looks like almost a perfect match.

Fantastic.....I was looking for that color also for my 84 Wineberry Wing. I had to replace my left side battery cover and was looking for paint to come as close to the Wineberry as possible...Big Thank you for sharing the info.

In my area, there is a close-out type of dollar store that has mixed cases of dupli-color spray cans 4 for $1. They are the smaller sized spray cans. There are a few other colors that are very close matches also, and at that price I can afford to experiment! :D

I know I'm in the wrong section, but do you know if wineberry for the '84s is the same shade as an '82 1100? They look similar on the computer, but I cant tell if the monitor distorts it any... Glad I found this, would like to get my trailer matching closer to the bike :)

It's close but looks a shade darker. I need to try the Red Garnet instead of the Dark Red Garnet. Also, the paint dries flat and you have to use the Clear Coat to make it glossy.

Is it supposed to be a gloss finish according to the can?

If so, then you are not spraying the coat on "wet" enough [strange though, as even if you are spraying it very lightly it should have some gloss to it].

Some paints are flat and are specifically designed to be used with a clear coat on top, but the can should say if it is a flat or satin finish.

The guy at Auto Zone told me this. I went thru 2 cans and finally went and asked.

I dropped by O'reilly's today. They had a dupli-color in medium garnet. I looks really close. But one of the O'reilly's here is a paint shop. They say they can mix the exact color for me in an aerosol can for $13. I'm going to give that a shot.

Would you mind passing on the color codes your trying to match? I too take great interest as I have a couple different pieces I'd like to touch up and my color code as listed as: R-176C. This is on the inside of the gas filler cover on my 1995 Interstate. I believe mine is the Candy Spectra red. Anybody come close to this color with a touch up paint other than a factory Honda color?

Thanks!

I think the Wineberry on my 87 Aspy is R114 CU.

I just repainted one of my side bag covers . I used the Dupli Color Dark Garnet Red. To me it looks like an exact match for my 85. Got it done and back on in one day. When I was finished painting I put in front of a small heater to help the clear coat harden a bit. Now I'm thinking of the rest of the bike one piece at a time.

That is good news, the previous owner of my '85 Interstate sprayed part of the "trunk" lid with medal flake silver, so I need to sand and repaint the lid on the "trunk"..

Looked at it yesterday in the sun. It's mabey just a little bit darker. But it's hard to tell, the bike is 32 years young and faded on the top of all the painted parts. I sure like the thought of doing one piece at a time, as time allows. With the rattle cans clean up in no problem. The guy who helped me showed me a Dupli Color clear coat in a larger can for less money, just a little further down the shelf.

I'm going to revive this topic for the benefit of anyone else looking to match wineberry with duplicolor. The dark garnet is not as close as I liked. I tried it. Looks ok from a distance but within 10 feet you can see a marked difference in colors. What I did find was duplicolor's Deep Cranberry Pearl was almost a perfect match. Much closer than Dark Garnet. Just thought I'd pass this on to save others what I went through. Deep Cranberry Pearl #BCC0400.
