I am not sure the 84 Aspencade has Fairing Side Marker lights.
I have an 84 Interstate and those are just reflectors for me.

Also looked in the manual at 1984 Interstate and do not see a set of lights listed for those or wiring for them.
Yours might be aftermarket if you actually see bulbs in them.

Anyway, I am sure someone more knowledgeable in this area will respond.

Just so we are clear on this.

When you say Fairing Side Marker Lights are you referring to the little Amber colored 1.5 x 3 inch item on each side of the fairing, the Amber ones pointing forward or the Clear ones that are next to the headlight at the front?

I only ask because others may have differing terms for the lights you mean.

Thanks

The fairing ambers are just reflectors. If you have other, they are add ons and may not be connected to anything.

open both fairing pockets and remove them . then check the wire connections. most times they pull out if not tight. also make sure the socket is soldered and cleaned properly. i found that one of mine wasnt seating right where the bulb is placed.

I to have 84 Aspencade with those fairing amber lights. I have opened both pockets and they are lights but there doesn't seem to be any vacant plugs from the wiring harness. The lights have male bullets but no female mates. Is it possible OEM was to install the lights but just for use as reflectors?

I have an 84 Aspencade, and I am not quite sure which lights you talk about?

On mine I have no light in the fairing other than the small lights next to the headlights (they aren't working on mine however - but is on my todo-list) - these I believe are position lights. But I could be wrong as I have seen some with orange lights too...
The diamond lights are my sideindicators.
On the side there is two reflectors - they do not have any lights as far as I know.... but now you actually make me unsure of it... I have seen some add-ons that includes light. But I haven't seen any originally.
Mine also have a light on the mudguard - but this is not stock either.

I'm guessing that unless you access the fairing pockets, you won't see whether of not they are actual lights or just reflectors. I know mine have short pigtail wires, just no place to plug them to.

My apologies; you are most certainly right; they are indeed lights.

Mine are connected to the bike's wires - however I am uncertain of the authenticy of the connection. I didn't have my phone or any other image recreational device with me down to the bike, but it went up to a three prong connector with a light blue, light blue/white and.... one other colour connector.
In this connector the Lb/W connector was cut and crimped with another cable that ended nowhere, and the brown connector on the "reflector" went to the Lb/W bud on the main harness if I remember correct.

I am going for a ride later today, and then I will take some photos of the connectors - but a real deep diving troubleshooting I won't be doing until later; it will just end up on my list of what to do on the bike for now :)

Looking at the parts diagram they're called 'reflectors', same as my '86. I converted mine to run/turn light by hooking them into the wiring with an aftermarket light.

As promised some photos of how the sidelights are connected on my bike:

At the moment there is no light in mine, but three bulbs also seem to be busted, so will go get some new ones and give it a go.

There ain't much room to work on in that left side

Thanks for the pics. I agree the left side is really hard. Think it may be a winter project, and much easier with component removed. Thought a person could always run an accessory with relay to the lights on toggle.

A switch would be great, especially if it is created at marking/running lights; on my bike it seems to have been set up as turn signals as it is clamped onto the light blue cable in right side, which (if I remember correctly) is the turn signal cable - I can't really see what my left one is clamped onto.

My bike also don't have a light swtich, but turns on the headlights and taillights when I set the key in ON, the only other option I have while driving is to switch to the high beam.
Someone installed a small mechanical switch and so far it does not seem to have any function (but when I played around with it, there usually came a small "pop" sound from the speakers. But since it seems that all bulbs were dead on the side markers and also the small ones next to the headlamp, I can not outrule that it could be for turning them on or off - if they aren't connected as turn indicators.

But yeah; definitely a winter project!

I bought a set of bulbs; and the light is not working on the side, neither as running light not as blinkers. So it's one of those things on my list for the winter.

Only on 85 LTD and 86 SEI they are oem side marker lights, all Interstate and Aspencade are equipped with reflectors. Every thing else is Maryland and Co. The connections on the pictures above, are poor and aftermarket. Replace that stuff.
