My first thing I'm gonna say is replace the frame...
Now with that out of the way,in a pinch, for another fellow on a different bike...many years ago.....he was broke....I knew how to weld really good...
We were able to "saftey" the bike...you know about welding stuff...sparks,heat and all...
After a lot of clamping, cleaning, aligning for the original position and some select pieces of scrap steel,we reinforced and rewelded the frame till it was safe again..
Not pretty but roadworthy.
I'm not suggesting this is your way to fix your bike..just something I did once.

If the frame is that rotten it will be roten on the inside as well. Count your blessings it didnt crack on the other side at the same time. And drop the engine out, run over with the rear tire, throw you off the bike, hit your head on the pavement. Knock you out break your leg spend 6 weeks in the hospital. :o Dont even mess with it....your life may depend on it.

Do motorcycles have to pass MOT? Cause this one won't.

any gl1200 should work, ltd or se-I may have tabs for exhaust covers you don't need but all frames are the same.

just an opinion, a different frame delivered to your door approx. $500? a different Goldwing of the same year/model approx. $1200? you are at a turning point, a build up of a different frame is an enormous task. keep your bike for parts and try your luck with another wing.

well, I see these with free shipping to london and UK craigslist has no gl1200's. I say fix it. You will have a chance to clean, paint and lube everything while you build, then you know what you have.

Now whatdumbass would sell everything but the sub frame. Have you advertised in the local small ads for one. I assume yours is to rusted or won't fit? Have you tried the people on ebay that ship stuff to England for GL?

I wonder if it might be worthwhile having a talented local welder fabricate something?

Over here in the uk an English speaking welder is hard to find. I was looking at the ones on eBay but I don't want to get hit with a huge duty or tax

Have you tried this Pinwall Cycle parts on ebay. Out of Ohio USA they have whole frame for 141 quid. They maybe able to tell you how much taxes and such are, they ship worldwide. Sure they have an email address but their phone # is 330-879-9910. may have the part U need for less. Just a thought from this end. If they crate ship with other parts to other people maybe less taxes?

Can you get a picture that you can put side by side with yours. Get some measurements length/width, bolt hole distance, curves, color. Just some thought.

I have the rear torn down on my SEi. Fortunately no rust to speak of. Just painted swing arm due to a little surface rust. No pitting. I see a few gaps where the sub frame joins the main frame. I'm figuring on spraying some non-detergent motor oil in the frame where I can get to it. Non-detergent oil has a lot of paraffin in it, great undercoating. I'm also considering drilling a few small 1/8" holes in the frame tubes up high so i can get some oil in those main tubes as well. i don't feel a hole that size will weaken the frame and the oil will do wonders for rust prevention. I feel bad for this fellow who loves his old bike then the frame goes south. PA. uses salt on our roads in winter. That salt ate my 750 Yamaha exhaust, hence my name on here. Squirt some oil in those frame tubes folks, cheep insurance...Rusty

They dont use salt (yet) on the roads around here. Crushed volcanic rock? And I live 1 1/2 hrs from the Pacific Ocean. So very little rust, i'm glad to say. :D

Hi Graham,
Glad you're getting it all sorted. Be prepared to find loads of blasting grit coming out of any gaps in the frame. Have a look at the Wingovations website. John has plenty of details on protecting the inside of your 'new' frame.
While your engine is out, definitely do the carbs and belts and check all of the cooling system joints. If you disturb any, replace the gasket or 'O' rings as they probably won't seal if re-used.
If you are having any neutral light/cooling problems, sort them now while you can access the relevant sensors and connections.

Hi Graham and a happy New Year to you too.
I'm guessing the 1100 subframe was a success, then?
What barrel do you mean?
