Re: odometer
I'd check &/or clean the electrical connections from wheel to dash. May want to start with the handlebar dash board, one of the easiest to get to, course murphy will say it's at the most difficult to reach

Re: odometer
My '85 GL1200A did that a number of years ago, it finally stopped al together but the electronic digital still worked .... so I figured the motor that drives the odometer was bad. Found on on Ebay, whole cluster, less than $30 so I bought it and then took mine apart .... was a stripped pinion on the motor itself. Swapped odometers and all has been well. Mileage was maybe 2-3,000 more than what was on my GL1200 so I didn't risk messing up the odometer swapping motors only .... it's enough that I know the bike is a couple thou behind what it says.
