Honda Car 50/50 antifreeze

Post by SilverDave »

Is the Honda Automotive 50/50 Type 2 antifreeze more or less the same stuff as the 50/50 "Motorcycle" stuff available from a Honda motorcycle dealer ?

They both have no silicates, no borates, are premixed with distilled water, and convenient .
However the car stuff is less than HALF the price , per litre compared to the Motorcycle antifreeze .

----------------------------------------------------------

And as long as we are on new antifreeze.....

is it "OK" to use a rad cleaner, like Gunk Motor Medic 10 minute Rad Cleaner on a GL1200 rad , as long as its rinsed out with two fillings of water after ?
( and before a final filling with Honda 50/50 )

..... or is just a double water rinse/flush enough ?

I think so on the AF premix since it's silicate free and premixed with distilled water.
I think the cleaner is OK if needed .... I'd go easy on dosage myself. It is an all copper radiator in the 1200.
Water rinse / flush may well be enough.
I just change it every couple years in my 1200 & 1500, never used any "chemical cleaner or flushes" yet .... as not needed. Old comes out clean, temps remain very normal.

Personally, I'd flush with a couple of gallons of distilled water and not tap water. A gallon is only about ninety cents a gallon.
