Cylinders 2 & 4 not combusting - Help! 1986 Aspencade

Post by BroChester »

Running well on just the right side (sitting on bike). Starts well. Pulled coil leads from #2 and #4 (left side) with no effect. Cylinders 2 & 4 not combusting. Have fire to both plugs. Replaced plugs: no change. Saw topic about coil wires in wrong locations (Left coil firing 4 & 3, right coil 2 & 1) mine are correct. Checked timing belt. seems to be good. Checked compression: around 120 psi on all four. Fuel getting to all carbs. loosened carb drain on carbs 2 & 4 and fuel flows free. Any suggestions? What's the odds of both carbs being clogged?

I know with mine it took 4-5 carb rebuilds before all cylinders were 100%, and it still gets clogged every once in a while. I also had an issue with the fuel tank- put in a Randall modular fuel filter and clean it out every fillip.

On the other hand, my Aspy sat for the better part of 2 decades, so the tank is full of varnish, tarnish, and rust.

I took the cover and slides out of #4 and blew a tiny bit of compresses air down it and it cleared it temporarily. That confirmed clogged jets, so I just keep on top of it. The joys of carburetion.
