triple tree question

Post by walker70 »

Hi,I am getting ready to check my steering head bearings and when I removed my handlebar I noticed that on top of the upper triple tree there is a wire coming out of it's center but don't see how it unplugs,I was wondering if someone can tell me about it,I have a photo here, thanks.

Seems like I had to remove the switch down at the bottom and work the wire down until I got enough slack I could unplug it on that end .... and then the wire come up. Been a few years, I could be wrong.

There is a way to disconnect that wire bundle from the underside. Look in the How-To articles under the 1500, the procedure is similar enough to use as a guide.

That is your turn signal canceller. You have to get some slack on the top, then unscrew it from the bottom and pull it out from the bottom far enough that you can get to the connector. Disconnect that connector, and the wire can then be pulled up from the top. As mentioned, the GL1500 How To shows how this is done - the GL1200 works the same way. Look starting at step 17: viewtopic.php?f=14&t=12367

Thanks for the replies, this helps a lot but on the top of the triple tree do you need to lube the small boot and slide it back to also give it some extra slack.

You aren't going to get enough slack to pull the wire down in there otherwise.
