New Aspencade Owner

Post by surveywaters »

I just picked up a 1984 gl1200 Aspencade for $750 the week before last. Assuming it's the original dash, the bike only has 28k on it. The paint is rough but it's all there and in good shape considering. The subframe was rotten, it started slow when warm and the rear caliper was dragging; one of the caliper pistons was seized. I have replaced the subframe, rebuilt the starter, rebuilt rear master cylinder and rear caliper. The stator wires have been soldered at the trouble connector, I personally would rather have just kept the terminal clean.

What other issues or areas of concern can you guys point me to before I take it out? I know every bike has it's known issues.

Thanks!

congrats on your new to you Wing

you will want to replace the timing belts
also check the date code on the tires, if they are over 5 years old might want to consider replacing them

ok, I just finished installing the new timing belts. I went ahead and replaced the thermostat while I was there. The tires are from 2015. What else, there's got to be some known issues I can prevent.
