Noise from gas tank

Post by walker70 »

This happened only one time, the other day after doing some tune up work and a bit of revving on the throttle I turned the bike off and heard a whistling noise from around the gas cap so I took the cap off for a while and the noise has not returned, just wondering if maybe it was trying to vapor lock in the tank.

I suspect it was just the valve in the gas cap equalizing the pressure in the tank. If you ever come across a Yamaha FJ1200 that has just been parked, have a listen to the gas cap on it. They make the most awful groaning/wheezing noise for about 15 minutes. It scared the hell out of me when I first got mine. Most owners say it's just the bike thanking them for a great ride! :D
