Odd noise from either clutch or transmission

Post by walker70 »

Hi,this does not seem to affect the way it drives but on occasion when I take off it will make a light clunk sound, once under way no problem, still getting used to the bike so it may be me not doing the clutch/throttle properly,it can do it in all gears so I may not be used to it yet.

If you cruise gently at say 20-30 mph, then gently alternate between gentle acceleration and gentle deceleration using throttle only (no brakes), do you get the clunk noise then?

No,it seems to do it when I roll away from a stop in first or second gear mostly but not all the time.

I was thinking the u-joint and I think that's where admin was heading with his question. If it did when you did what wing admin said the I would point to that. Sorry that I have nothing for ya.
Thanks to all who answer and help. It is greatly appreciated!

Yeah,I am leaning towards that being the culprit since it does act like it would on a car driveshaft.

Could be the rear wheel drive splines, cush drives or bearing play allowing wheel to mis-align slightly.

Thanks for the info on that,I almost forgot about drive splines and cush drives, since I am reburbishing the rear shocks I plan to replace the rear wheel bearings while I am in there, already did the front wheel bearings. :D
